Cellist Ben Sollee to Headline Conservancy’s Chickstock Festival

HIXSON, Tenn. – It’s a day of local and regional music, artists, outdoor activities and family-oriented fun benefiting the North Chickamauga Creek Conservancy. It’s Chickstock! The 2010 event, scheduled for Sun, Oct. 10, at Greenway Farm, will feature genre-bending cellist Ben Sollee as well as favorite local and regional bluegrass acts.

“We’re really excited to have Ben Sollee headline this year’s Chickstock,” said Larry Cook, executive director of the North Chickamauga Creek Conservancy. “He’s a phenomenal artist, and his music is a great complement to the other artists in the line-up.”

Sollee’s commitment to touring part of each year by bike also meshes well with the environmental and conservation mission of the North Chickamauga Creek Conservancy.

The line-up for Chickstock 2010, which is part of Chattanooga’s RiverRocks celebration, also includes local and regional favorites like Lou & Lynn Wamp and their band Bluetastic Fangrass, Gerle Haggard, Lone Mountain Band, New Binkley Brothers, Bluegrass Pharaohs, Blue John, Ogya and Slim Pickens. The event will also showcase local artists, food and outdoor activities.

“As in past years, Outdoor Chattanooga will offer festival-goers free canoeing, kayaking and biking,” said Cook. “We’re also planning a number of special events and activities just for kids. Chickstock is a wonderful way to get the whole family outside to enjoy the beauty of Greenway Farm and North Chickamauga Creek. Last year, we had about 1,200 people come out, and we’re hoping for an even bigger crowd this year.”

Advance, discount tickets to Chickstock 2010 go on sale Aug. 18 at www.chickstock.org, for $8 through Sept. 15. After Sept. 15, the regular ticket price will be $10.

All proceeds from the Chickstock event support the conservation efforts of the North Chickamauga Creek Conservancy.
